About Us

The Women's Symphony Orchestra, OSMUM, is a cultural project created by women and aimed at all those who love music and are enthusiastic about innovative projects that explore unpublished fields.
This Orchestra, the first of its kind in Spain and Europe, has the backing of accumulated years of experience of its instrumentalists and is made up mostly of teachers from the different music conservatories.

The OSMUM has been promoted by Mª Isabel López Calzada, a Spanish orchestra director, who has a solid cultural and business background resulting from many years of experience leading national and international orchestras and music companies managed by her.

Music is the priority of this orchestra, but also research and dissemination.

The basic objectives that the orchestra should set in all its activities were defined: 98 / 5.000 Resultados de traducción Renewal of the repertoire, Support for Spanish music and musicians and Creation of new audiences.

Like any self-respecting symphony orchestra, the repertoire it intends to address covers all composers, periods and styles, but special attention will be paid to those works that have gone unnoticed until today.

It is about the whole wide range of compositions created by women throughout the history of music and to which little or no attention has been paid, while giving a real opportunity to join a great orchestra to numerous instrumentalists of elite that due to their gender,

they encounter numerous obstacles to equal access to symphony halls around the world.

These objectives are part of the current concern and concern of public organizations and private companies, to spread social values through culture and knowledge and therefore support and sponsor projects as ambitious as this one.

This patronage work not only allows promoting numerous cultural projects that, otherwise, would be unthinkable with the consequent loss for the culture and identity of the people.

The journey of this Women's Symphony Orchestra began on March 27, 2004 with a concert at the National Auditorium in Madrid, where a wide repertoire was offered with works by Tchaikovsky, Fanny Hensel Mendelssohn and Edgard H. Grieg.

After this concert, the Orchestra has maintained a constant collection and research work and not only in classical music but has also made inroads in modern music, accompanying Joan Manuel Serrat, in flamenco with Carmen Linares or interpreting songs of pop music accompanied by different singers.
